*1 COMPONENT

For the beginning of this sem, i choose to complete all my require component and tools. The example of tools is breadboard, jumper and so on. For component, there is 2 component that i had change. Which brand of the sensor and wifi shield.

#AOSONG to DHT11
For temperature and humidity sensor,  i decided to change the brand of the sensor, which is from AOSONG to DHT11. This is because, DHT11 is more familiar compare to AOSONG, so it is more easier for me to get the information for this DHT11, compare to AOSONG. Beside that, the price of DHT 11 is affordable to me.

CHANGE TO

#Arduino WiFi Shield to WiFi Module
Then, for next component is, i had make a decision to change Arduino WiFi Shield to WiFi Module. The main reason i change this component because of the price. The price of the Arduino WiFi Shield is extremely expensive compare to WiFi module. Since the title of my fyp is Development of LOW-COST Air Quality Monitoring, i had consider for this price side. Moreover, the function of WiFi Module and Arduino WiFi module is slightly same.

#WiFi MODULE ESP8266
Description: The ESP8266 WiFi Module is a self contained SOC with integrated TCP/IP protocol stack that can give any microcontroller access to your WiFi network. The ESP8266 is capable of either hosting an application or offloading all Wi-Fi networking functions from another application processor. Each ESP8266 module comes pre-programmed with an AT command set firmware, meaning, you can simply hook this up to your Arduino device and get about as much WiFi-ability as a WiFi Shield offers (and that’s just out of the box)! The ESP8266 module is an extremely cost effective board with a huge, and ever growing, community.
This module has a powerful enough on-board processing and storage capability that allows it to be integrated with the sensors and other application specific devices through its GPIOs with minimal development up-front and minimal loading during runtime. Its high degree of on-chip integration allows for minimal external circuitry, including the front-end module, is designed to occupy minimal PCB area. The ESP8266 supports APSD for VoIP applications and Bluetooth co-existance interfaces, it contains a self-calibrated RF allowing it to work under all operating conditions, and requires no external RF parts.
There is an almost limitless fountain of information available for the ESP8266, all of which has been provided by amazing community support. In the Documents section below you will find many resources to aid you in using the ESP8266, even instructions on how to transforming this module into an IoT (Internet of Things) solution!
Note: The ESP8266 Module is not capable of 5-3V logic shifting and will require an external Logic Level Converter. Please do not power it directly from your 5V dev board.
Note: This new version of the ESP8266 WiFi Module has increased the flash disk size from 512k to 1MB.
Features:
  • 802.11 b/g/n
  • Wi-Fi Direct (P2P), soft-AP
  • Integrated TCP/IP protocol stack
  • Integrated TR switch, balun, LNA, power amplifier and matching network

*14 Week : Presentation

This week is a week of PSM1 Presentation. The main thing that have to complete is Slide Show for the presentation. The purpose of this presentation is to let the panel know what is the project or product that will be produce, and either we know and understand how we gonna do it. So it is important to understand all the detail of the project and do a research about the all the component and the method uses. There is my complete slide presentation. The max time of the presentation is 10min, and another 5min for the Q&A session.

*13 Week : REPORT PSM 1

This week is the last week before the presentation week, so there are so many things that had to be complete by this week. Such as;

#Literature review : The related work
There is some related work to my Air Quality Monitoring. The function of all this work is same, which is to monitor the air, but in different method.

Temporal Air Quality Monitoring Using Surveillance Camera
The aim of this work is to develop a state-of-art reliable technique to use surveillanc camera for monitoring the temporal patterns of PM10 concentrations in the air. In this work an internet protocol (IP) network camera was used as an air quality monitoring sensor. The figure below show the IP network camera and the overview of Temporal Air Quality Monitoring.

Hierarchical Air Quality Monitoring System Design
The aims of this work is to build the prototype system by hierarchically deploying terminal sensor nodes inside the smart buildings of each floor and data collection units and routers in the open spaces between smarrt buildings, and transferring the sensor thing data back to the information processsing center for real-time information. The information processing center is through ZigBee wireless protocol. The detection of air is by CO, SO2, NO, NO2 and PM2.5 sensors. The figure show the  MQ135 sensor 2.5 sensor.

Air Quality Monitoring Using Remote Sensing and GIS Technologies
This is the new method, which is integrates satellite remote sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS). It can be used to continually monitor air quality at micro-scale level.

I had study this three related work, there are the comparison between this three and my project.

#Literature Review: Competitive Analysis
Competitive Analysis is the product that already in the world market with the same function of my project, to monitor the quality of air.

Air Mentor
DC1100 Air Quality Monitor By Dylos
Airassure PM2.5 Indoor Air Quality Monitor
Air mentor is a product from China. The founder of this product is CoAsia Microelectronics Corp. The purpose of Air Mentor is to monitor the concentrations of VOC, particulate matter, temperature and relative humidity. This product are indoor air monitoring, cannot use it outside of the building.
The founder of DC1100 Air Quality Monitor is Dylos Corporation. DC1100 features technology and engineering that allows monitoring of indoor air quality with an LCD screen that provides small and large particle counts with a dynamic bar graph showing actual count reading. Multiple modes including minute, hour, day and monitor to evaluate your air quality and store up to 30 days of air quality history for review.

This item is produce from TSI, the world pioneer in molecule estimations, the AirAssure PM2.5 Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Monitor can give continuous, dependably exact estimation of indoor PM2.5 dust focuses, one of the best wellbeing dangers today. The AirAssure Monitor is the savvy on-the-divider instrument to address the issues of all the partners in a building.

I had search and study about this three product, and the table below show the comparison of all this product and my project.

*12 WEEK : Title of Project / Panel for presentation

#The Official Title of Project
On this week, my SV had decided the official title of my project, which is
DEVELOPMENT OF LOW-COST AIR QUALITY MONITORING SYSTEM.
Besides that, for this week also, i knew the panel for my project presentation PSM1, which is Madam Izadora Binti Mustafa as a Panel 1 and Madam Raeihah Binti Mohd Zain as Panel 2 .

As mention on my official title of project, the most important element of my project is LOW COST. So, i had to make sure that the device or product that i will produce is low cost compare to other product in market.

For this week, i had checking my report for this PSM1. There is a lot of mistake. For example, the arrangement of content. It should be from general info to specific info about my project.

#123dCircuits
Besides that, on this week, my SV had introduced the online software for circuit simulation, which is AUTODESK 123dCIRCUITS. This software allow you to do the circuit simulation. By this application, we can share the our simulation with others user and can look for the other simulation as a references. This is the link of 123dCircuits https://123d.circuits.io/
I had done a simple simulation by this software. I had refer to other work. There is the example of 123dcircuits simulation.

This circuit is one of my try to use this software. i had used potentionmeter to vary the temperature sensor.
